What happens whenever Aerohive has a first? We have a party!

True to form, when something worth celebrating happens around The Hive, we celebrate. We’ve celebrated holidays, company anniversaries, major milestones ... the Fun Committee always makes sure it’s worth stepping away from your cube for a minute to partake in the festivities.

Our most recent celebration centered around a First. Perhaps not an industry first, but certainly a first for us – our very first baby born to an Aerohiver (excluding spouses, of course). Our very own @wifi_princess, aka Abby Strong, is expecting her first bundle of joy this month.

Think Abby is just a little bit excited and happy about being a mother? Look at that glow.

So we put together a party to send her off in style – Aerohive style, that is! :-)

The Marketing team had a lot of fun planning and decorating.

Of course there were the customary baby shower games. Each of us was given a blue baby pin and forbidden from saying the word “baby” or crossing our legs.  Let me just say there are some very aggressive young men at The Hive, all of whom were attending a baby shower for the first time. These fellas did the most tricking of people into accidentally uttering the word “baby”, after which they’d hold out their hand, palms up, and demand your pin. (I lost my pin to one of them – do I sound like I’m still bitter?).

As for the guest of honor, Abby’s game required her to match a series of parenting advice quotes with the executives that provided them.  To give the illusion we were at work, these quotes were, of course, displayed in PowerPoint. She kept guessing Stephen Philip (VP of Marketing), even though he, like the others, only put in one tip. That was pretty funny.

This one she did guess correctly, and it came directly from the top – CEO David Flynn.

David’s tip reads, ”Keep it simple and don’t buy all the fancy baby toys. A wooden spoon and a few pots and pans are WAY more entertaining than any fancy baby toys.”

Too bad we didn’t hear that advice before chipping in and getting her this big bag of baby loot! :-)

I am not sure that photo does the contents of the bag justice. It was packed with everything Abby never knew she needed for her baby – and more. In addition to the customary bibs and bath toys, the baby got two custom Aerohive “onesies” reading Hive On. and Buzz Off.

We were there to celebrate an imminent new life, but let’s be real. Clearly, no one had a problem eating the cake too. And what a pretty cake it was.  And cake pops too – yum!

Don’t you love it when they accidentally start cutting some of the pieces too big, and it happens to be your turn and so you get one of them?

One last shot with the Aerohive marketing team: We are so happy for you, Abby. Congratulations!
